As the original cycling cat sitters of Blackheath, Oliver, and I have cycled to every cat sitting visit since the beginning.

Our customers are used to being greeted with us wearing our bike helmets and our bikes are safely locked up to a near by gate or lamp post when we come to your home.

You may even see us cycling around Blackheath together often along the cycle path in Greenwich park en route to customers in Greenwich or nipping about Blackheath Royal  Standard and Westcombe park.

Who Are Blackheath Whiskers?

Blackheath Whiskers isn’t just a cycling cat-sitting business; it’s a mother and son family-run business who understand that cats are more than just pets – they are family.

Our mission as a friendly, local family cat sitting business is to provide authentic, personalised, loving care for every cat, ensuring their well-being while you’re away.  We were the orginal cat sitters in Blackheath to donate to Cats Protection at each visit.

But there’s something else that sets us apart: we’re the original cycling cat sitters of Blackheath. Oliver and I use bicycles to travel to all our cat-sitting assignments, and it’s not just about convenience – it’s about choosing a sustainable, eco-friendly way of providing our cat sitting services.

For years, even before cat sitting, we have been eco friendly, recycling, using a water butt for the garden, using eco-friendly products, avoiding purchasing plastic bottles.

On our cat sitting trips, we fill up our BPA free water bottles with tap water and off we go. At home, we cook from fresh, using local, seasonal  produce where possible. Obviously, there are times when it is not available but we try our best!

As part of Oliver’s Duke of Edinburgh award, he is learning to make some amazing healthy dishes using fresh, organic (if available) ingredients and as part of this initiative reducing use of plastic packaging.

While some cat sitters are caught in traffic jams and relying on gas-guzzling cars, we pedal through the neighborhood, embracing the freedom of cycling while doing our part to reduce our carbon footprint and nurture the planet.

How Blackheath Whiskers Got Started?

The inspiration behind Blackheath Whiskers came from a desire to offer a higher standard of care for cats. As residents of Blackheath, we saw a gap in the market for personalized, reliable cat-sitting services that also prioritized sustainability.

I wanted to combine our love of cats with a commitment to the environment with an opportunity for Oliver to also learn about running a business.

As Oliver is now age 14, setting up Blackheath Whiskers has been an amazing opportunity and we are constantly evolving and coming up with new ideas, like Oliver’s initiative to donate to Cats Protection, our local Blackheath branch  at each visit.

We noticed many cat sitters were using cars to get from one home to another, which not only contributed to traffic congestion but also negatively impacted the environment. We wanted to stay local so that we can practically cycle everywhere. When we are unavailable, we have built up strong relations with local DBS checked and experienced cat sitters that share our values and ethos. They either cycle, run or walk to cat sitting appointments too.

We didn’t want to add to the traffic on our streets or increase pollution. We wanted to bring an eco-friendly alternative to cat sitting.

Combining our love for cats with our passion for cycling, we created Blackheath Whiskers – a cat-sitting service and name chosen by Oliver that’s as committed to the environment as it is to providing the very best care for your feline companions.

By using bicycles, we avoid unnecessary carbon emissions and traffic, freeing up more time to focus on the cats we care for. We don’t waste time sitting in traffic – instead, we’re out in the fresh air, cycling from one happy cat to the next. This way, we can give your cat the love and attention they deserve, rather than stressing over car journeys.
